Cover Letter
This blog post includes pieces of free writings. Most of them are thoughts on Tuan's articles. I have tried free writing for several times in the past and enjoyed the process, although I cannot say I am very comfortable with and used to it. It is a relaxing way of writing. I believe it can be very beneficial with more practice. Academic essays are however a more serious type of writing to me. In other words, I usually have to write them to achieve specific goals. In this situation, my thoughts are somewhat restricted and monotone. I hope I can use free writing more to develop my writing skills to help also those formal writings.
Freewriting
There is a postcard on my desk. L sent it to me during the summer. I tried to imagine the scene described on it. It is a place I have been to, and I was thinking if that is not unreal. I feel peaceful and loved. I enjoyed this space of freedom, while I know I will never need to worry about losing them, those who are far from me. We do not need to talk everyday. They are philosophical people, I am sure, but they don't keep asking me those “philosophy questions” every single moment. I feel lucky to have them with me. It is physical distance that separates us temporarily. When we finally get to meet after even if after a long long time, we have endless words to say to each other. We understand each other’s mind, though changes happen to each of us. Tomorrow is Friday.
Focused Freewriting
We cannot express our intimate experience of places clearly and directly with written language or spoken words. We do not feel them all the time in our daily life, but sometimes a tiny detail of event may launch these emotions immediately. Every independent beings, regardless of his personality and life experience, has the ability to sense these feelings.

Process Writing
When I am trying to do freewriting on Tuan’s articles, I felt I have a lot to say but did not know how to focus on one specific aspect. Freewriting gives me space to write smoothly without specific rules. My thoughts are released, while the new problem is that I cannot write systematically and clearly. Ideas flashed on my mind and I tried to capture them. I believe free writing is a good method to improve my writing skills. On the one hand, I easily get a group of ideas that I can talk about. On the other hand, I have to select some of the topics based on their priority to me. I assume that this process reveals what is the several most important points in the readings, and what means more to me. I can also learn to apply different structures to organize these ideas and make them relevant to one another.
